The UH-60 Black Hawk is the primary U.S. Military attack chopper and has served many prominent roles over the years. It is the most prominent model in a military, having five more helicopters than any other single country, and as many as all other countries combined. This computer’s avionics help it stay at the top of its field.

Flight Management — The UNS-1Fw FMS

This system takes care of all navigation for the Black Hawk and includes a remotely mounted Navigation Computer or NCU with a four-inch color display. It allows pilots and co-pilots to plot routes, carefully track their location, and report back to base safely with minimal issue.

Such systems utilize an advanced internal SBAS Global Positioning System, or GPS, to provide constantly updated troop movements, enemy placement, and much more. As a result, the Black Hawk can provide precision strikes with minimal risk of error or crash.

Display — The MFD-890H 8.9′

This display screen uses advanced avionics to provide a constant heads-up display for all Black Hawk pilots. It includes all relevant information, such as fuel, bearings, height, and damage problems with the chopper. This information is regularly updated to ensure that pilots are safe.

The color display helps to keep this information accurate and brightly lit, even during night missions. However, the system can also be dimmed to minimize brightness during more delicate stealth-oriented missions. Doing so helps to cut back on the risk of being spotted too soon. This helps to minimize the dangers of crashes or emergencies.

Communications — Sophisticated RCU Units

Black Hawk helicopters typically utilize two RCU (radio control units) to make the base safe and guarded. In addition, systems usually include advanced flight ID protection security, guarded-keyed emergency function designs, and multiple preset frequencies for more accessible communication.

These frequencies vary based on the helicopter’s active flight plan and mission and often include VHF Com, NAV, and ADF adaptability. Additionally, most utilize a color LCD that makes tracking frequency changes and any other complications easy to learn for beginner and advanced pilots.

Understanding these avionics helps to make it simpler for new pilots to master this advanced and fascinating aircraft. Many types of upgrades may also be available for these units, including more advanced GPS systems and much more. Each must be approved by the military before integration, as units must be synchronized with the available units in the military.
