UH-60 Black Hawk
The UH-60 Black Hawk is a four-bladed, twin-engine, medium-lift military utility helicopter manufactured by Sikorsky Aircraft. The UH-60 Black Hawk design was submitted to the United States Army’s Utility Tactical Transport Aircraft System (UTTAS) competition in 1976, and it won the program in a fly-off competition with the Boeing Vertol YUH-61. Since then, Sikorsky Aircraft’s UH-60 Black Hawk has become a popular model in the United States Army. The model was named after the Native American war leader black hawk.
The UH-60 entered service with the United States Army in 1979, replacing the Bell UH-1 Iroquois as the army’s tactical transport helicopter. Since the Black hawks joined the service, they have been through various updates and modifications to perform certain warfare activities. Improved variants were also developed for utility purposes. The Black Hawks have been exported to several countries and have also served in combat during conflicts in Grenada, Panama, Iraq, Somalia, the Balkans, Afghanistan, and other areas in the Middle East.
